My name is Samuel Witdouck, and I am studying Business Management & Entrepreneurship at VIVES University of Applied Sciences. During my internship at Accent, I had the opportunity to become a real part of the organisation.
Within the Culture Team at headquarters, I help organise and communicate internal events. The team focuses on strengthening employee engagement and creating a positive workplace experience through internal communication, events and employee appreciation initiatives. At the same time, they help safeguard Accent’s company culture. In addition, I am researching how Accent can better connect with students who are looking for their first job.
What made my internship even more valuable was the opportunity to spend two days at Accent’s Roeselare office. It gave me a clear insight into the day-to-day operations of a local office and allowed me to see firsthand how candidates are guided step by step towards the right job.
A warm welcome from day one
From the moment I walked into the office, I felt welcome. The atmosphere is open and approachable. I was given a tour, introduced to colleagues specialising in different sectors and involved in the team’s activities right from the start.
What stood out most to me was the personal approach. People are not treated as numbers here. Employees know who is coming in, are aware of appointments and greet people by name. Whenever someone new walks through the door, the team takes the time to get to know them and understand how they can help.
More than filling vacancies
During my time at the office, it quickly became clear that Accent does much more than simply fill vacancies. The focus is genuinely on helping people move forward. Candidates receive advice on salary, working conditions, practical matters and the next steps in their career journey.
Accent also helps people get off to a strong start by arranging the necessary training and ensuring workwear is ready for their first day on the job. And there is even a nice extra: a welcome goodie bag when signing a contract.
I also had the opportunity to join an account manager on client visits. This gave me valuable insight into how companies are supported and how Accent works to create the right match between candidate and employer.
One Team
Behind every successful match is a team effort. You quickly notice how important collaboration is. Each day starts with a team briefing where vacancies and candidates are discussed and priorities are aligned. This ensures that both candidates and companies receive the support they need.
Focus & fun
What makes working at Accent special to me is the balance between focus and enjoyment. There is plenty of room to concentrate and do your job well, while team spirit remains equally important.
Coffee breaks and weekly after-work drinks give colleagues the chance to connect on a more informal level. You can really feel that people enjoy working together.
You move forward
As an intern, I was given the freedom to learn, take initiative and be myself. It is an environment where you not only gain professional experience but also grow as a person.
So, what’s my conclusion?
At Accent, I experienced firsthand how people are placed at the centre of everything. Collaboration is key, and everyone is encouraged to get the best out of themselves.
